June’s Employee Wellness Month is a reminder that our mental and emotional health deserves as much attention as our to-do lists. Juggling deadlines, meetings, and inbox overload can blur the line between work and self, and without intentional support, stress can quietly undermine productivity and morale.
This month, take advantage of your organization’s resources and simple wellness strategies to cultivate resilience, balance, and a sense of purpose beyond the cubicle.
A great resource to tap into is your Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Capital EAP offers confidential, no-cost access to short-term solution-focused counseling, referrals, and practical guidance on issues ranging from stress and anxiety to family challenges and financial worries.
To make the most of it:
- Contact us at Capital EAP: We are always happy to help. You can reach us by phone at 518-462-6531 or visit our website at www.capitaleap.org to get connected to services.
- Use support early and often: A brief consultation can head off burnout and help you develop coping strategies before stress escalates.
- Explore complementary benefits via your employer: Many employers also provide access to mindfulness apps, discounted gym memberships, or peer-support groups—take advantage of these tools between EAP sessions.
Seeking help is a proactive investment in your well-being and in your effectiveness at work.
Try micro-moments throughout the day.
Another way in which we can take control of the workday is to observe micro-moments. You don’t need a full hour away from your desk to recharge. Building two-minute “micro-moments” into your day can look like a few of these practices:
- Box breathing: Inhale for four counts, hold four, exhale four, hold four. Repeat to calm your nervous system.
- Sensory grounding: Name three sights, two sounds, and one sensation (e.g., feet on the floor) to anchor your mind.
- Mini stretches: Roll shoulders, tilt your neck side to side, or raise arms overhead to release tension.
- Gratitude pause: Jot down one small “win” or positive moment—shifting your focus toward optimism.
These brief rituals restore clarity, bolster mood, and model self-care for your teammates.
Reconnect with what make you feel like you.
The more years you acquire at an employer, it’s easy to let job performance define self-worth. But you are more than your role.
Employee Wellness Month invites you to reconnect with personal passions and consider the points below to reignite that fire:
- Reflect: Spend five minutes listing hobbies, values, or strengths unrelated to work.
- Reclaim time: Block out one hour this week for that non-work activity, whether it’s gardening, reading, or a home project.
- Share: Organize a virtual “passion show-and-tell” so colleagues can showcase their life outside the office.
Honoring your whole identity fuels creativity and guards against burnout. This is how we remind ourselves that we are loved, important, and valued regardless of what is happening around us.
Build Better Boundaries
In an “always-on” culture, boundary setting is vital to our mental wellness. Consider these simple strategies:
- Set “Off-Hours”: Mute notifications after work and resist checking email until the next business day.
- Create a dedicated workspace: If you work remotely, having a specific area for work helps you physically and mentally “clock out.”
- Communicate clearly: Share your availability with managers and peers so everyone respects your downtime.
It is important to note that balance is not a perfect split. Some weeks you may invest more in work, other weeks will have more time invested in personal life. The goal in better mental wellness is alignment—making conscious choices every day that reflect your priorities.
Employee Wellness Month is more than a calendar reminder—it’s an invitation to integrate support and self-care into your daily routine. Leverage your EAP, practice micro-moments of mindfulness, celebrate the many facets of your identity, and uphold healthy boundaries. In doing so, you’ll not only enhance your own well-being but also contribute to a more engaged, resilient workplace culture.
Let this June be the launchpad for a year-round commitment to your health, both on and off the clock.
If you would like assistance in putting any of these points into practice, our clinicians at Capital EAP would be more than happy to help. You can reach out to us at 518-462-6531 to contact a member of our intake team to start the intake process.
Remember—you are worth the investment of self-care and better mental wellness.
