EFT Tapping is a method of Contemporary and Alternative Medicine that consists of tapping on central energy meridian points on the body to reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety. This healing modality aims to balance energy flow and release energy blockages that are connected to illness. The method was developed by Gary Craig in 1995 and has become a widespread practice since then. Research has shown that that EFT tapping can be helpful for those struggling with chronic pain, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and various conditions.
Emotional Freedom Technique Tapping can be facilitated by a practitioner, though it is usually self-administered. It consists of using the fingertips to tap on specific parts of the body. It is most useful when experiencing significant stress. EFT Tapping is administered as follows.
Step 1: Recognizing the central issue.
This first step is important where the most troublesome issue is pinpointed. It is most beneficial to focus on one issue at a time throughout the sequence.
Step 2: Ranking the intensity of the issue.
Here, using a scale from 0-10, rank the intensity of how much stress the issue is causing you with zero being no stress at all to ten being the most intense.
Step 3: Tap on the meridian points in sequential order.
Following the chart below, start with side of hand karate chop, then top of head down to underarm and repeat the sequence. Once beginning with side of hand again affirm to yourself that although you are experiencing that certain issue that you still love, honor, and accept yourself. Repeat the sequence at least three times before moving on to step 4.
Step 4: Ranking the intensity again.
Now you will rank the intensity of the stressor again, using the same scale, and see if your stress has decreased. To continue to decrease, repeat the steps until a place of calmness is reached.
What is great about EFT Tapping is that it can be utilized almost anywhere and can also serve as a great method of release when feeling stressed out either at home or in the workplace. If this is new to you, it may feel weird at first, but it is worthwhile to give a try. You may come out of it feeling pleasantly surprised and if not, you will have learned something new about yourself!
